Here's an animated weather radar image of Super Typhoon Yolanda (International name : Haiyan). So beautiful to look at, but it is actually a very terrifying image if you know the potential destruction and havoc it could bring. According to weather experts, Yolanda is one of the strongest typhoons* to hit the Philippines at Signal No.4, and probably the strongest storm ever to form in the Pacific. 

Earlier reports say that it is already a Category 5 storm (based on the Dvorak Technique - a hurricane- typhoon intensity measurement system), which is the highest intensity recorded for hurricanes* in the Atlantic in recent years. One online news portal reports that it has even reached Category 8 (with Mean Wind Velocity of 195 MPH or about 312 KPH). Category 8 is the maximum number on the scale, and the last category of the Dvorak Technique. That's how anomalous this super typhoon is.

Super typhoon Yolanda is estimated to landfall in Leyte province in the Visayas before noon today.

I pray that this super typhoon weakens before it landfalls and will not wreak havoc on its path when it traverses the country. Be safe everyone. And God bless our land!

What is the difference between a Typhoon, a Hurricane and a Cyclone?
Hurricanes, cyclones, and typhoons are all the same weather phenomenon; we just use different names for these storms in different places. In the Atlantic and Northeast Pacific, the term “hurricane” is used. The same type of disturbance in the Northwest Pacific is called a “typhoon” and “cyclones” occur in the South Pacific and Indian Ocean.
